Firstly, a very warm welcome to the Helston Relay for Life (R4L) website and congrats on finding the blog area! We are a team of volunteers from the Helston area who have come together to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The relay for Life is a great way to raise funds over a number […]
What a fantastic start to the year!
Ten teams are already signed up to the Helston Relay for Life; and with many others interested and busy recruiting their teams we are very excited to see what develops over the next few months.
Helston Relay for Life is an excellent way for you, your friends and family to be involved in making a real difference to the lives of those diagnosed and living with cancer.
Cancer touches most of us in our lives in one form or another; we all have a story to tell about someone close to us. The more fortunate of us have positive stories to tell, and this is predominantly down to research, and ultimately how that research translates into new treatments being available.
For those of us that do not have such a positive story to tell, it’s equally important that those suffering receive the best care possible. Cancer Research has made significant steps forward with diagnosis and treatments, which is reassuring to hear as 1 in 2 of us will be affected by cancer in one way or another.
Questions being asked.
What is the Relay for Life?
It’s a fund-raising event for all ages and abilities to get involved.
Do I need to be fit?
No, not at all! You can walk or run and the Lake side at Helston is accessible to wheelchairs and buggies.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, please do; well behaved dogs are welcome to join in too!
What do we have to do?
Find between 8 and 15 people to make a team; give the team a good name, then register the team at https://relay.cancerresearchuk.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/General?pg=entry&fr_id=1994
This is a 24-hour event and one of your team members has to be on the track throughout the event (not the same team member!). You might decide to do this by giving each member of your team a 1 hour slot to walk, or break it down however you like. Each team member will raise sponsorship.
We also encourage teams to raise money all year round, and we hold regular team coffee mornings to help with ideas.
How much do we need to raise?
As much as you can, every last penny helps.
How do we raise the money?
You can raise sponsorship, and Cancer Research will send a pack to you.
